I won't finish that quote, but I am still alive and often kicking. It was very nice that Aput wrote me to let me know that folks were a bit worried by my absence and may have lost me since I changed my blog name for the US election (I was formerly Matthew 25).
My work is seriously busy, I am getting out of the house more on weekends, and have joined a gym after a three-year absence. I do enjoy blogging and do plan on continuing this blog, probably under a new name after the election (or before, if Hillary is nominated). I am one of those very strong Obama supporters who realizes that even if Hillary wins the nomination, she'll be far better as President than four more years of this Republican nightmare.
Coming to 500 lucky California residents before long.
This year won't be the end of the gas-powered vehicle. But Honda Motor Company's release of 500 hydrogen fuel-cell powered FCX Clarity's in California in 2008 could be the beginning of the end. What makes Honda's gambit significant is the corresponding release of its Home Energy Station Unit. Set the unit up in the yard, and it will use natural gas to produce enough Hydrogen to power your FCX Clarity and your home at around 50% of the normal cost and with a 30% reduction in emissions.
Its approach addresses the Catch-22 confronting every alternative-powered vehicle that's come down the pike: Without the fueling infrastructure, there's no incentive to buy a hydrogen-powered vehicle, and until hydrogen-powered vehicles become available there's no incentive to build the infrastructure.
By offering both, Honda could jump start demand for the Clarity, which is based on Honda's own V Flow fuel cell. The cell stack combines hydrogen with atmospheric gas to form chemical energy, which is then converted into electric power. The road to mass commercialization still stretches ahead, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are not the only alternative vying for attention.
Even so, getting the technology rolling on California highways will build important momentum for the fuel cell industry. And California is a strategic proving ground. In addition to $4/gallon gas prices, the state is willing to subsidize fuel cell energy stations to keep pressure off its electrical grid. That may give the Clarity an edge over plug-in hybrids. These events mark the beginning of the sixth year of the occupation of Iraq and almost 4000 American deaths, countless thousands of Iraqi deaths, many thousand more injured and maimed for life, and the displacement of millions. We have squandered our precious human and financial resources to only make Iraq a haven for terrorists.
Hagee is one of the bizarro fundie types on the right-wing fringe. He is very anti-Catholic and wants to bring war in the Middle East to hasten what he believes will be the "end times" and Christ's second coming. Yet, McCain will not renouce this endorsement. I guess we know that deep down, McCain is just another politician of the type in the White House now.
